Up next: a Global Work Party on 10.10.10!

Complete listing of Philadelphia 10.10.10 events!

Last Fall we made history - worldwide on October 24th, 2009 there were 5,200 events in 181 countries as part of 350.org's International Day of Climate Action.  The globally coordinated day of peaceful environmental demonstrations was the culminating event in a year long international campaign by 350.org.  The target - the year end Copenhagen Climate conference.  The goal - to influence the international delegates at the conference to reach a global consensus to move toward the solutions to the climate crisis that science and justice demand.  In the words of Bill Mckibben, founder of 350.org, what we all were part of was "the most widespread day of political action the world has ever seen".  Absolutely remarkable!

But a worldwide grassroots movement engaging upwards of a million global citizens was not enough.  Our international leaders looked the climate crisis in the eye and backed down from the science of 350 parts per million. While we did not come out of Copenhagen with a fair, binding commitment to ensure the safety of our societies for future generations, what we did come away with was arguably the most publicized and publicly engaged environmental discussion in media history.  The start of something very big.

To keep the momentum going, 350.org has targeted another global event for October 10, 2010 (10.10.10).  This time though, the focus is not on demonstration, but on action - on work.  The goal of 350.org's 10.10.10 "Global Work Party" is to show our international political leaders and members of the media that despite the failure in Copenhagen, the citizens of our planet are ready to step to the plate.

Here in Philadelphia we had an outstanding showing at last year's International Day of Climate Action.  Over 350 people gathered on a rainy Saturday afternoon on Independence Mall - in the shadow of the Liberty Bell - to send the 350 message loud and clear.  We also had a network of supporters hosting numerous 350 events throughout our region!  And we want to pick up where we left off to make 10.10.10 even more of a success!

And this is where you come in.  There are no rules and no limits to what kinds of events are possible - from a neighborhood cleanup to planting trees, gardening classes to solar panel installations we need to find as many ways as possible to make the Philly Work Party the best it can be!
